Finding the right size

Children's sizes vary from brand to brand, so the age on a label is only ever a starting point. The most reliable way to choose is to measure your child and use the chart below.

Our sizes are based on height first. If you only measure one thing, measure height.

How to measure

  • Height — shoes off, standing straight with their back against a wall. Measure from the top of their head to the floor.
  • Chest — ask them to lift their arms, then measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape flat across the back and close under the arms. Arms back down before you read the number.
  • Waist — measure around the narrowest part of the torso, over one light layer rather than a jumper.

A soft tape measure is easiest. A length of string marked with your thumb and held against a ruler works just as well.

Garment lengths

How long each piece measures, so you know what you're getting.

Size Top length Trouser length
1-2 years 38cm 55.5cm
2-3 years 40cm 59cm
3-4 years 42cm 62.5cm
4-5 years 44cm 66cm
5-6 years 46cm 69.5cm
6-7 years 48cm 73.5cm
7-8 years 50cm 77.5cm
8-9 years 52cm 81.5cm

Allow around 1.5cm either way. Knitwear moves.

If your child is between sizes

Go up. Children grow through a size faster than they grow out of one, and our pieces are made to be worn, washed and passed on rather than outgrown in a season.

If height and chest point to different sizes, follow the chest for tops and the height for bottoms.
